Maybe too 'cut-out', I guess? Sure, it brings the attention to the...sleeping person(?), but makes me curious as to what is behind him that was cut-out.
I agree with the above statement that the cutout is not that effective. Once again, it's hard to say though without discussing the overall layout. The subject is very expressive.
